Bait moulding

Mike Fenner fished the Specimen Lake, using his Tipping rod; method feeder and hair-rigged sweet corn.
Having set up the equipment Mike made a few trial casts and eventually clipped up to the island off peg 3 and started his session. He had decided to use a Garbolino “Speed Mould” as this piece of kit, which was designed by Garbolino match ace Neil Machin, provides a perfect parcel of bait for each cast. Mike also stayed with the Neil Machin theme by using BagEm baits Red Reaper method mix that has been specifically created for BagEm by Neil.
The inset pictures show how the mould is used.
  1. Mould, feeder, and method mix
  2. Place the bait in the mould
  3. Fill the mould with method mix
  4. Press the feeder into the mould
  5. Invert the mould and remove the feeder
  6. Half fill the feeder
  7. Replace the feeder and press down again
  8. Invert mould and remove the feeder
  9. Cast in and place the rod on the rest
  10. Set the tip so that there is a slight bend
  11. When the fish takes simply lift into the bite

Mike caught steadily throughout the session, finishing with a mixed bag of carp, chub, bream and roach.
Mikes Tip - Clipping up for those young anglers who have not attempted it is using the line clip on the reel spool to trap the line. To do this firstly cast out to the area you wish to fish in, once you are happy with your cast place the line into the line clip. This then means that each subsequent time you cast the line is stopped at the same distance and the bait falls repeatedly in the same place, keeping your feed concentrated and drawing fish into the swim.
