Waters

Ashley Hall Pool
May 29th 2010
I recently visited Ashley and was asked by Nigel the Bailiff
to raise a water report (date 20/05/10). This was my 3rd visit to the
pool and as yet I have not seen a fish caught, I made excuses for the
cold weather earlier in the year and there was a working party the day
before I fished on the first visit, but everything was conducive to
catching last Thursday.
I have had a few bites and lost a fish some weeks ago and the
same goes for other members who I have shared the pool with, but no
fish. People tell me that the pool lost a lot of fish last year during
a hot weather spell and I believe Cormorants have been a plague which
is a shame because its in a lovely spot and is so handy for a lot of
the members I have spoken to.
Lets hope it recovers, its become an obsession with me to
catch a fish there.

This
was my second time at Ashley Pool and as you can see it provided me
with my first and only ever caught (up to now) 9 lb Mirror Carp. Caught
using a pineappe pop-up boilie on a hair rig. This was my first time
using this method and was really pleased to get a result otherwise i
could of seen myself reverting to float fishing only. Now i can enjoy
either

Dave Ward fished Ashley pool on
Friday evening
21st July. Fishing the peg in the centre of the pool at a rod length
out with a small bed of ground bait and double red maggot on the hook.
Dave caught plenty of Rudd up to 10oz and Perch up to 6oz
with
plenty of bits in between. He also had three bream the largest being
over 2lb. He said that he saw bigger fish in the margins and
tried to fish for them but they didn't seem to be interested in
feeding. Having heard reports that this water had been attacked by
cormorants and the fish had all been eaten he was pleasantly surprised
to find that this was not the case.
(Ashley has
suffered badly from
Cormorant
predation in recent times. Not so long ago it would give you Crucian
after Crucian as fast as you could fish them. There was also a big old
Perch apart from those stocked by the club. Plenty of fancy fish,
perhaps dumped there and reasonable Tench stocked by the club. I am
very glad, however, if Ashley is coming back. Web)
