February
19th 2007
This
was my first ever visit to the Border complex. I was planning on
fishing the Meridian Canal, but after speaking to a couple of very
helpful assistants I decided to fish on the Specimen Lake. I settled on
peg 9 and baited three lines, one close in fed with pellets and a few
grains of corn, the other two at 9m, one fed with 5-6 castors every put
in, the other fed with 6-8 grains of hemp every 5 mins. I started
fishing at 10.30 am, and started to catch nice plump roach between
3-6oz on the castor line. It was slow going for a couple of
hours
and I had to work hard for the dozen or so roach I'd caught. It started
to pick up a bit about 1.00pm I caught 3 skimmers up to 2lb and another
dozen roach within the next hour. I tried the hemp line about 2.00pm
and this was now producing nice plump roach. I kept swapping from one
line to the other taking a couple of fish from each line at a time. I'd
been trying the near line all day, and feeding it with a few pellets
& a couple of grains of corn every 20 mins. but never got a
touch
until my very last put in about 3.30pm. This took me by
surprise
and nearly pulled the pole out of my hands, after a
few
minutes I'd netted a nice mirror carp around the 5lb.
mark. I
ended the day with about 35-40 roach, 3 good sized skimmers and the
mirror carp right at the end, all in all it was a nice enjoyable
session.
