On Saturday afternoon I decided to go and fish brook house pool Ollerton. Arrived around 3.30pm
To my suprise there were only about 8 anglers fishing and after speaking to a couple of them they said that the fishing had been slow all day . But that didn't put me off. I settled for peg number 3 on the car park side and set the feeder rod and used a ground bait feeder. I find that a bag of ground marine pellet works best on this water with a pinch of maggots sandwiched in between on every cast. It took 4 casts to the centre of the water to put my feed down . then on my fifth cast tightened up my line and sat back. Within seconds my tip swung around and I was into a mirror carp around 4lb. After catching that I was catching common carp around the 2lb mark every chuck with the odd roach and skimmer showing. Ellie, my daughter, who was fishing peg 4 on the pole was just fishing off the lilies and was hitting Roach, Rudd and Perch up to 10 oz with the odd common around the 1lb mark. The hook bait that produced the most results was red maggot.

Brookhouse pool is still proving to be a popular water with club members. Good bags of Roach have been caught on maggot with Bream and Carp showing on the feeder. The water management team have put two extra fish protection areas in the last two corners of the water. This autumn we should be starting work on the completion of the pathway around the water to make it more accessible.........Ernie

.
Peter
and John Shufflebotham fished Brookhouse Pool
on the 16th. Peter Fished ground bait feeder with red maggot hook
bait and started to catch small Rudd, 5 to 10oz. This was folowed
by Bream weighing 1 to 2lb, with the odd small Common Carp. These
fish were all caught fishing off the car park side. John
Shufflebotham caught the 4lb Carp in the photo left. Members
fishing the field side pegs were catching small Tench and 1lb
plus Carp on the pole. This was at six meters out and using punch
bread and small corn over a bed of dynamite green ground bait.
They were also catching catching Rudd up to 1lb. Peter says, "A
great water giving great sport which will only get better when it
gets warmer". (Peter Shufflebotham)
