The start of something
Sir
Winston Churchill, supposedly, said, "People trip over opportunity
every day of their lives. Most pick theselves up and walk on as if
nothing had happended."
The Bay Malton under 18 anglers are at
that point now. Grasp the opportunity and you could become the best you
can. Or you could just walk on. more

End of dipping
This
applies to Border only. The need to dip and rinse nets at Border has
been removed. However, members are requested to ensure that their nets
are properly dried and aired at home after a fishing trip. Also, before
fishing at Border could you leave your nets on the bank for a while to
ensure they have dried.

New stocking
The
Meridian Canal at Border has been restocked with 14oz Mirror and Common

Fancy being a land owner with fishing rights?
To illustrate the commitment of this club to its members it is
a pleasure to tell you that the club has bought the fishing
rights on the River Dane at Cotton Farm, along with some land.
This comprises the road, from the entrance gate, down to the river and
a section of land bordering the river, this being measured from a
center point in the river whatever that center point is at a given time.
The length concerned ends at the style that leads onto the Manor farm
stretch. In the other direction it goes as far as the hedge bordering
the first meadow which is near to the car park at that point.

First Hatherton report
The
Hatherton report is appearing on the news pages just because it is the
first and, perhaps, to encourage others to send in reports on the club
waters they have fished. This item will be moved to water reports in a
couple of weeks.
Phil
Williams fished rod tip for three hours at Hatherton on Sunday Nov 11th
with great results. He used double pinky(ie) on the hook at two inches
over depth on top of a small bed of liquidised bread and small
handfulls of pinky loose feed. Within seconds his float was under and
he had a nice 10oz Rudd. As soon as his float was back in the water it
was under again. this time catching a 10oz Roach. This was the way it
went for the full three hours. Phil said he was averaging a fish every
thirty seconds as you can see by the pictures he was not far out. Nice
fish Phil. Report by Peter Shuff

Junior development officer
It
is a pleasure to announce that Dave Smith has been appointed as Junior
Development Officer for BMAC under eighteens. There will be more news
on Dave during next week and a start will be made on the Junior pages
over the coming weeks.

Images of new stretch
Below
are a few images, kindly supplied by Rob Campbell, of the new River
Bollin stretch. No doubt the keen eyed amongst members will recognise
where it is. As you will see, the track to the river needs some repair
which will carried out soon. The moment there is more news you will
find it here.

Pike championships
Steven Ectol will be holding a number of Pike matches on Lymm Dam to
raise funds for the A.C.A. and British Pike Championships.
The match dates are: 28th October, 25th November, 23rd December, 13th
January, 17th February.
Steve
has been running Pike matches on Marley Tiles for the last seven years,
however the water is unfortunately no longer available. This is due to
quarrying on the site. Steve asked if BMAC could help him out and the
club was only to happy to oblige him and the A.C.A.
If you would like to book on one of these matches you can phone Steve
on 01782 564949. Explain that you are a BMAC member.

New stretch on the Bollin
BMAC have acquired a new
stretch on the River Bollin which is due to open shortly. The water
management team (you can help them, call head water keeper) are in the
process of erecting club signs and car parking plus, the landlord is
repairing the access tracks down to the river. This new stretch should
be open soon for Winter fishing, the exact date will be posted here.
The
water contains: Pike, Bream, Roach, Perch, Chub, Barbel and Trout.
October 16th 2007
Opening
time
The last 30
tons of stone have just been laid on the access road to Hatherton Lodge
pool. In total close to 105 tons have been put down for this road and
car park.
Another surprise, when the water team arrived to
finish the road, was a tree that had fallen into the pool needing to be
removed and cut up. Also another coat of paint had to be applied to the
stages followed by a general clean up. As you can tell, a very long
weekend.
All signs and pointers will be in place by the end of
this week and the rest of the stocking will also be complete (Roach,
Bream, Crucians, Perch and Tench). Hopefully the pool should be open
for Saturday 20th October 2007. A map will be posted on the site by the
end of the week.

Primrose
overflow repair means closure
As you can see by the images
primrose pool has suffered a major water loss due to a broken pipe in
the out let system. This resulted in approximately 4ft loss
of water.
Early Sunday morning the water management
team were called out and within a few hours the pipe had been repaired.
It also gave an opportunity to remove a lot of lilies and
weed, being made easy by the low level of water. All fish stocks are ok
and all oxygen levels in the water are normal. This water will remain
closed until further notice.

Appreciation
Hi
Thanks
for all your hard work you do for this club it's my first year and I've
enjoyed my self so much trying all your waters including Borders,
Manor, Ashley, and your river Dane and Bolin. I'm new to
fishing
even though I'm a bit of an oldie when I fished the Bolin I found it
hard to find somewhere to fish with the over grow along the bank but
when I did it was a very good day. Some of the places I can't
even find I spent 2 hours looking for the Dane that was on the
Middlewitch road I found the river but it was Winsford A/C so I
finished up at Cotton farm still I'm sure I will learn where they all
are and I'm having a great time on the waters that I do find.
Thanks again looking forward to the coming months and years I hope to
spend on your club waters.
John.

Satisfaction
Hi
Just a quick letter to say thanks to everyone involved at
Bay
Malton. This is my first years membership and even though I
have
not fished as much as I would have liked, the quality of the waters I
have seen make this club incredible value for money ( upcoming rises
included!)
Trotted a line down the Bollin a couple of weeks ago, caught
amongst
others, a 5lb brownie, 3lb rainbow and a chub around 4lb. A great days
fishing.
Many Thanks, keep up the good word and please pass on my
thanks to
everyone involved
Vinnie Coleman, Worsley.

Reward for patience
It is
fast approaching a year since this web site was revamped and some of
the items that were promised have taken longer than expected. Now the
developments are coming to fruition.
Firstly there
is going to
be movement for the junior membership of the club with your own
secretary and development of your pages.
Attention
is being
given to disabled anglers who will be given a better and more
convenient opportunity to enjoy the sport. Special stages, disabled
toilets etc.
Both of these items center around
Border Fisheries
which will become an Angling Center of Excellence, complete with on
site NFA tutors.
There will be more information on
these
developments in app. two weeks time.

Have
you
lost a mobile phone?
Whilst
fishing the River Dane (Cotton Farm) last week I found a mobile phone

info from it to ring. If anyone believes this to be their phone they
can contact me regarding this matter on the phone No. below,
or
on my mobile 07919954329.

Peover
game
fair report

The Cheshire Game and Angling Fair was held on
August 19th at Peover Hall near Knutsford. Bay Malton Angling Club was
present with its own display stage, sharing what the club is about and
showing what it has to offer. Even though the day was blessed with
heavy rain and four inches of mud. The show was very well attended and
much interest was shown in the Bay Malton stand with many people taking
away application forms. Quite a few signed up to go onto the waiting
list to guarantee their membership in September. ..............You can
read the full report on the Head Waterkeeper's pages.

Communicate
with fellow members
The
Bay Malton website is after your news about anything to do with the
club, members, fishing in general, even births, deaths and marriages
pertaining to club members.
Often we see something happening that appears unimportant but it is
still newsworthy: suspicious actions at a water; a member doing
something unusual; animal behaviour; humerous events; anything
spectacular or oddball.
Whatever you consider
newsworthy,
however small,
don't be shy at sending it to website. It will be appreciated. The
email link is in the left hand column.

First
time success

Bob
Grout's daughter, Lizzy, caught a seven pound Carp on Gibbos Pool,
Border. This was her first time ever fishing and was at the family
friendly Border complex. Her total catch included eleven Carp and a few
Roach, all caught on paste. She is obviously a natural and is
even talking about fishing the matches in the near future. That's my
girl! You can see a picture of Lizzy's eleven pound Carp in the Gallery.

Small but well formed
I
mentioned earlier that BMAC, when it started the push for growth,
retained some of the best small farm ponds. Manor Pool, which is one,
has always been a favourite of mine and is a superb place to take a
young, or new to fishing, person. If they leave without catching
anything it will be strange.
It is important that
clubs retain
this type of water or over time they shrink to nothing. Whether this is
just through neglect or filled in intentionally is not important. The
fact that the countryside changes is.
Ernie has
written a small
report on Manor which you can find on the head waterkeepers pages.

Blackshaw
upgrade
Blackshaws is
a pool that the BMAC has had from about the time it started its growth
policy. At that time a number of people said that the club would fold
if it did not stick with small farm ponds (no one can be right all of
the time). What has happened is that the best small pools have been
kept and Blackshaws is one of them. This policy ensures that there is
something for every angler in BMAC.
Blackshaws has
recently
undergone an upgrade. You can read about that and other information to
do with Blackshaws on the Head Waterkkeper's page.

The
image
that you see here is a right hand bend on the River Dane. Go round that
bend and you are onto a new stretch of the Dane that members can now
fish. This new stretch is a mile in length and is the continuation of
the Cotton Farm length. The only access that I know of at the moment
is over a stile, plain to see, at the end of Cotton Farm. I
am
sure there will be other access, from Manor Farm, and as soon as I know
I will let you have details.
There is also a pond on
Manor Farm
land that will be available to fish when it has been restocked. There
will also be some new images that will appear on the head waterkeeper's
pages for you to view sometime next week.

I have

Help for the Summer
season
The
fact is that during the Summer months more people go fishing than
during the Winter months. I am not the only nesh person around. This
means that BMAC has a much greater need for good bailiffs to look after
those waters and anglers. So you are being asked to do a stint as a
bailiff for BMAC. It need not take up a lot of your time.
A
lot of anglers have favourite waters that they fish more than others,
consider becoming a bailiff for that water, you are there anyway.
Perhaps you live just a short way from a BMAC water in which case
keeping an eye on it would be no more difficult than going to the
corner shop. Whatever the situation we asking you to help out with a
spot of bailiffing this Summer.
Full details are on
the head
waterkeeper's pages, or send your details to water (see contact list)
and someone will get back to you very quickly.
Give
up a little
time this Summer to help BMAC, do a little bailiffing.

Clearing up confusion
There
is
some confusion at the moment as to when the last day for membership
renewals is. Due to a typographical error the last date shown in the
2006 club book for renewals is April 30th. This should have been
printed as: the renewal date is Feb 28th, however you have until April
30th to renew without paying a rejoining fee. Fishing on BM waters
between these two dates is not allowed.
As the club
was
responsible for the error it will honour the April 30th date for the
stragglers who have not already renewed. Next year, however, the
renewal date will be Feb 28th.
March
22nd 2007
Spreading further afield
Towards
the back end of 2006 there was a news item about a new water with a
four mile hike around its perimeter. That water, Watergrove Reservoir,
will be available for members to fish from April 14th (revised date)
2007.
Watergrove
Reservoir is situated north of Wardle off the A58 Halifax Road.
Rochdale is to the West and Littleborough is to the East. A
page
for Watergrove will be prepared shortly together with a PDF download to
print off and insert into your club book, if you wish.
This
promises to be a fantastic water with special interest to those wishing
to fish for lake Trout. Could be an ideal place to spend a few days and
to this end I will investigate caravan and camping sites together with
local B and B's that are nearby.
It is set in an
area that the
whole family can enjoy, with toilets and picnic area at the reservoir.
The
Bay Malton needs bailiffs for this water so if Watergrove is accessible
for you see if you can help out.

Major

The
widely held opinion of Bay Malton waters is
that the standard of upkeep and maintenance is high. Yet most of that
work is carried out by the few core members of the water management and

As the club expands to
bring
members ever better and more varied sport the responsibility placed on
the team becomes even greater. There simply are not enough people to
carry out the work required. Work parties are not a condition of
membership, as in some clubs, and the plain truth is not enough people
volunteer. If all the members gave just one day out of three hundred
and sixty five the task becomes easier. Give two days and the work
could be split into teams. Consider helping out to help yourself,

Good morning
You may notice a change today which, I hope, will help to
push the Bay Malton Angling Club nearer to where it wants to go.
The site already attracts a healthy number of visitors each month
but I would like to see that double in the near future, making
baymaltonanglingclub.org.uk a very attractive advertising medium.
The more that comes in the more you can have. You can help by
telling your angling friends about this site.
A number of pages are not complete. For example:
if
you
think your image has gone missing from the gallery it will be
back over the next few days.
If you come across areas that are not working or links that
are broken, please let me know at:

Update on Hatherton Lodge
Below is a view of Hatherton which was mentioned in an
earlier news post. There is is still some work to do on this
water before it is open for fishing. This work will be taking
place very soon.

Sir
Winston Churchill, supposedly, said, "People trip over opportunity
every day of their lives. Most pick theselves up and walk on as if
nothing had happended."

November 17th 2007

Below
are a few images, kindly supplied by Rob Campbell, of the new River

Hi
Just a quick letter to say thanks to everyone involved at Bay

Reward for patience
It is
fast approaching a year since this web site was revamped and some of
the items that were promised have taken longer than expected. Now the
developments are coming to fruition.
Firstly there
is going to
be movement for the junior membership of the club with your own
secretary and development of your pages.
Attention
is being
given to disabled anglers who will be given a better and more
convenient opportunity to enjoy the sport. Special stages, disabled
toilets etc.
Both of these items center around
Border Fisheries
which will become an Angling Center of Excellence, complete with on
site NFA tutors.
There will be more information on
these
developments in app. two weeks time.

Communicate
with fellow members
The
Bay Malton website is after your news about anything to do with the
club, members, fishing in general, even births, deaths and marriages
pertaining to club members.
Often we see something happening that appears unimportant but it is
still newsworthy: suspicious actions at a water; a member doing
something unusual; animal behaviour; humerous events; anything
spectacular or oddball.
Whatever you consider
newsworthy,
however small,
don't be shy at sending it to website. It will be appreciated. The

Bob
Grout's daughter, Lizzy, caught a seven pound Carp on Gibbos Pool,

even talking about fishing the matches in the near future. That's my

The

that you see here is a right hand bend on the River Dane. Go round that
bend and you are onto a new stretch of the Dane that members can now

the Cotton Farm length.

Give

Update
In
what seems like a long
time ago BMAC announced two new waters in Cheshire: Dove House Pool and
Willow Bed Pool. Things, however don't always go according to plan
which is why it seems like a long time. The plan is now back on track
and you can read the full update on the Head Waterkeeper's page.

Fishing
suspended
Fishing has
been suspended on the River Bollin at Carr Green, Warburton. Due to
personal circumstances the landowner has asked BMAC to close fishing on
the river for the foreseeable future. You will, of course, be informed
if and when fishing can be resumed.

Major
effort by a
few
The
widely held opinion of Bay Malton waters is
that the standard of upkeep and maintenance is high. Yet most of that
work is carried out by the few core members of the water management and
conservation team shown on the left.
As the club expands to
bring
members ever better and more varied sport the responsibility placed on
the team becomes even greater. There simply are not enough people to
carry out the work required. Work parties are not a condition of
membership, as in some clubs, and the plain truth is not enough people
volunteer. If all the members gave just one day out of three hundred
and sixty five the task becomes easier. Give two days and the work
could be split into teams. Consider helping out to help yourself,

Notice
of closure
Lymm
Dam will
close on March 15th until further notice. This, I imagine, is due to
regeneration work to start on the water. During this time there will be
a heavy bailiff presence from both the Bay Malton and the Environment
Agency.

For example: if
you
think your image has gone missing from the gallery it will be
back over the next few days.
If you come across areas that are not working or links that
are broken, please let me know at:

Update on Hatherton Lodge
Below is a view of Hatherton which was mentioned in an
earlier news post. There is is still some work to do on this
water before it is open for fishing. This work will be taking
place very soon.
