Dovehouse Pool
July 2010
Adam Lee caught this fine common at Dovehouse Pool recently. Looks like it's in perfect condition!
October 2009
We were trying Dovehouse pool for the first time. It is a good size
pool with over 20 decent pegs. Daz was fishing on feeder for Carp,
there were a few nice Carp topping but it wasn’t to be his lucky day.
Steve and I were fishing at the island end with small waggler and
maggot in about 4ft of water, there were plenty of small Roach and Rudd
and also a few Gudgeon, which was a surprise they don’t seem as common
in waters as they used to be! A very pleasant place to fish, shame
about the gale force wind on the day.

I
tried Dovehouse after reading the report from Julian Roberts, and got
to the water at around 8 on 28/08/08, from Julians report I tried
fishing the feeder to the centre of the pool where he had noticed
“larger carp topping”
The pool is quiet
shallow, and stream fed (from my conversation with the friendly farm
owner) the water is also clear probably due to the fresh supply of
water. I found the Bay Malton directions easy to follow and was able to
park right by the poolside on what I found to be a picturesque and
clean venue.
It started slowly with some
fish moving over on the other side of the pool, the jumping carp seemed
around double figures from what I could see, but soon a tench of around
2lb pulled the tip round fishing a single grain of sweetcorn. Followed
by a couple of bream around 4lb and a hybrid close to 3lb, all fish
giving a good account of themselves, and photos attached.
It
then went quiet, and the tip pulled round out of the blue and I was
soon at full stretch with a carp that broke me against the line clip
that I was unfortunately using.
After that I caught a roach and a
couple of small crucians (Which would have been easier if I had brought
maggots)
Like
Julian I then packed up after three and a half hours for easier, but
maybe less rewarding sport at Border, all in all a good day and I will
be back for those carp, I think it would be a benefit to locate the
best pegs on this 25 peg venue.

I
fished Dovehouse pool for the first time today. Spent about three hours
there for one bite and one fish. See attached photo. The net is 24''
and I estimated the fish at about 7/8 lbs. Perfectly conditioned and
fought strongly. Larger carp topping towards the centre of the pool.
An
idyllic spot. Walked down from farm yard as fields looked soft for
taking a car down after recent rain. Spoke to farmer who was happy for
me to park in the yard provided no obstruction.
As bites slow moved on to Border
and had a few carp but not in quite such splendid condition! All said,
a good day's fishing.

Julian Roberts
