Mitchells House fly fishery is now open to those members of the club who persue this side of angling. The fishing consists of a 28 acre reservoir with a dam wall running through the middle of the water, so you have actually got two lakes.
The grass around the reservoir is cut on a regular basis and any trees or shrubs are set well back so there is no interference when casting.
The depth is about forty feet but there is excellent access around the water for the angler. There is also good access to the water together with a car parking area marked with BMAC signs.
The fishery was leased to Accrington Fly Anglers who stocked the water with Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout. The club vacated the fishery some five years ago as I understand. On my visits to the water I have seen fish rising for the fly and I am told by the local ranger hat there are some good fish i the water; but, as always, we will be looking to stock more fish over the next twelve months. All fishing is catch and return.
Just a couple of things you should know: please take extreme care when entering or leaving the fishery as the busy A56 expressway runs outside the fishery and can be like Brands Hatch at certain times of the day. Park only on the car park. Absolutely no dogs, fires, or litter. Fly only. A club key will be needed and all club car stickers must be on view. Wear a good hat; it does get windy but it is also very beautiful.
The fly fishing side of the club is a new venture and I would like it to be a success. If you are a BMAC fly angler and have friends who fly fish get them to join BMAC fly anglers, the more members we have the more financially viable it becomes for BMAC and we can look to acquire more waters/rivers for members. Wishing you all good fishing and please let me know how you get on. Ernie
P.S. Club bailiffs and Unite Utilities Rangers patrol this water. Please make sure you have you club card with you and a relevant E.A. license. For information contact myself, Dom Swain, or Nigel Rogers (fly fishery officer) see club card or news page of this site.

It just gets better
You may remember
about 18 months ago we posted images showing the head waterkeeper
crouched down on the banks of a new water which the b m a c had
designed and built. Well here are the images of that water nearly two
years later it is aproximently 3 acres with a three foot shelf all the
way round
then dropping to
its deepest point of 16ft this water has been stocked with small tench
and roach and crucian carp along with 30 20lb + carp this water will
have limited staging each stage size will be about 10ft wide and 8ft
long ideal for bivys this water is going to be the new specimen fishery
for club members for 2009 season there will also be night fishing on
this water by PERMIT only with very strict rules. This water also has
under water islands plus one large island off centre with pine trees
growing on it so this will give you some idea of the size. more
information on this water will be posted on the site later in the year.
Watch this space.

Wish fulfillment
It has always been the aim, of the Bay Malton Angling Club, to give members the best and greatest variety of fishing opportunities. One of those aims has been to increase the fly side of the the sport available and if that appeals you will love what is now on offer.
A deal has been completed that will allow members to use their club card to fish a superb fly complex which also includes wild Salmon running the prestigious River Ceiriog in Wales The place where you can join the elite is Chirk Fishery in Wrexham. This is about one hours drive from Altrincham, one hour from Liverpool and half an hour from Chester.
The club waters pages will be updated next week when you will be able to read directions and other information. Well done Ernie.
Important
As I am sure most anglers are aware game fishing does not come cheap and it is no different for the Bay Malton. As far as Chirk is concerned the club has bought an allocation and it may well be that will be enough to satisfy the interest within the club.
In order to asses this, to fish at Chirk you will have to make a booking direct to the fishery. The number is: 01691 772420, no name on the list, no fishing.
If it is found that the interest exceeds the budget it may well be that there has to be an extra charge on the club book for those who want to use first class facilities such as Chirk.
Note: please make sure you have the correct EA licence for the fishing you do. You can go here for more information.
"Happy new year to you (Ernie Shufflebotham, head waterkeeper)
Well as I said at the AGM I am keen to get new waters for the club and to provide a variety of angling for our members. Now I would like to give the fly fishing section a boost and here is the starter. Myself and the assistant head bailiff took a trip to beautiful Wales to meet Shaun Cody the proprietor of the respected Chirk Fishery, just outside Wrexham. Chirk is a fishery I know well BMAC having done business with Shaun for a number of years now. We sat down at the table and I put my proposal to Shaun, after a minutes thought he accepted. So what is on offer is a first class fly fishery complex for our members.
There are three well stocked lakes.
Lake one is for juniors
and is so well stocked it will keep
young anglers happy instantly, for
hours, possibly some adults too. Lake two and three are for the big
boys and girls with some very tasty fish ranging from 1.5 lbs to10lb.
On these waters you will catch, Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, American
Brook Trout, Golden Trout, and Blue Trout. What a day out, or
even a
weekend. Photograph to the left is a Golden Trout.
There is a catch and return policy on the lakes but you can keep some of your catch for the table at a small price per pound.
Not only do you have the still water lakes on offer you also have a good length of the Prestigious River Ceiriog, one of the finest game rivers anywhere and the Salmon are now running. Both myself and Dom were privileged to see this spectacle on our visit.
Where else could you get all this on one card. All you have to do is show your BMAC card at the lodge on arrival, sign in to verify you have booked and off you go.
All baits, rods (for hire too), advice etc. are available so don't be shy to ask. There are toilets on site, you can get a beer. It's a great day out for all. B&B's and hotels are available nearby."

The farm shop and smoke house. This lovely shop offers some great food: smoked Trout, smoked Salmon, Pates, fowl, sausages and a fine variety of meats and pies. Set in lovely surroundings, all the Trout are from the Chirk fishery. Giving a real touch of rural Wales it is well worth a visit

Brownies in one of the hatchery pools. We had just thrown feed in and immediately 1,500 Trout went wild.

Another holding pool and another handful of feed making the fish want to leave the water.

Pool 2. It's that man again. Your head waterkeeper just checking. No problems here, this place is immaculate

Pool 3. This long deep pristine water has some wonderful fish in it: Blue Trout, gorgeous Golden Trout, Brook Trout. There will not be many of you who have caught these before. Just look at the scenery. That shadow at the other end of the, sorry it's that man again.
The crystal clear waters of the River Ceiriog make it one of the finest game rivers in Britain. You will find superb Brown Trout and the King himself, the Salmon, now coming up from the Dee Estuary. What more can be said. If you are a fly angler it is not one to miss.
Lymm Dam
The few photo's below are just a reminder of what a fantastic place Lymm Dam will be to spend a day fishing. The images are from a walk round the Dam on a beautiful, cold, late winter morning. I will try and get hold of some images showing work in progress on this gem of a water. Please do not download these images as they are in use elsewhere. Abuse will mean they can't be used.
