Spring News Letter

BAY MALTON ANGLING CLUB – SPRING NEWSLETTER

The club would like to welcome all our new members and to thank our existing
members who have renewed. Enjoy your fishing and thank you for supporting our
club.

A small reminder to all our previous members, membership is still available for 2024
should you wish to rejoin.

So here we are again, Spring has arrived, we have been busy throughout the winter
and still have a lot of work to do, including some exciting news on the stocking of our
waters.

Border Fisheries
As some of our members may already know the Cafe is now closed. Unfortunately,
this was partly due to a rise in energy prices and the lack of support for the cafe.

The club office remains on the Border Fisheries complex but has been temporarily
relocated to the garage due to a change of use of our original office building. A new
office rental will be provided at Border within the next 12 months. Ground bait/pellets,
hemp and corn are still available for sale as normal.
On the back of this there seems to be a few unjustified rumours flying around about
the club. I would like to reassure all current and potential members that it is ‘business
as usual’ at Bay Malton Angling Club and your membership remains the great value
for money angling club it has always been.

If any member needs any further reassurance regarding the club, please address me
directly on 01270 820812.

Ground and water maintenance continues throughout the year, grass cutting, tree
trimming, new stages amongst much more. Big thanks to Mick, Rob & all the
Monday maintenance guys who help with the water maintenance. Thanks also to
Danny, Brad and Graham for your help with the groundwork and also for the work at
Bradeley Hall Pool. Further thanks to all our Bailiffs and water management team for
everything you do to keep the club well maintained it is much appreciated.

I am pleased to announce that we will be restocking the Match Lake with Mirror carp
& Common carp shortly. We have also made provision for our members to fish the
Match Lake one Sunday EVERY MONTH between April and September 2024.
Please check your membership book on page 40 for more information.
Thank you, Neil, for running the silver fish winter league, the matches have been well
run and produced some excellent weights throughout the winter. Congratulations to
Dave Hope for winning the silver fish league, about time! We hope to see you all
back next winter.

Thornhills Fishery
The water level is good and the water continues to fish well. Work has been carried
on the stages and surrounding area. Thanks to Allen and Matt for all your hard work.
The River Dane

Access remains good. The club secured a healthy stocking of 5000 fish at Cranage
& Robinsons Meadow through ongoing discussions and agreement with the
Environment Agency. The fish were made up of 1000 10 inch Barbel & 4000 chub,
dace & roach. These fish were stocked by the curtesy of the Environment Agency
and were sourced from their fish farm at Brampton. The stocking of the Dane
remains an important and ongoing stocking project.

A huge thanks to the Environment Agency and all those involved in overseeing this
exciting project. On behalf of the club and Environment Agency, we politely ask that
members keep us informed on the ongoing growth and wellbeing of the fish.
The bridge work will end in April and the grass trackers have been moved off the
site. We are hopeful that this will have a positive impact on the water and the river
will fish well this year.

Lymm Dam

Lymm Dam has had stocking of 50 carp recently with 3 to 5lbs fish, this should give
the water a good range of fish from 3lbs to 30lbs+
I Would like to thank Lee & Lewis for all the hard work they have carried out on the
Dam, without their hard work and commitment to the club this work would not have
been carried out.

The club is looking for three or four extra bailiffs on the Dam to help monitor and
maintain the water, preferably local to the area. If you feel you are able to help,
please contact Stewart in the office 01270 820812.
Thank you to Martin for all your help on the Dam, good luck with your new venture.
Brookhouse Pool

The pool continues to fish well after all the stocking carried out over the last 2 years.
The water is stocked with quality tench & bream. This water also holds carp, barbel
and lots of silver fish, a good all year-round water. The trees have been cut back
thanks to Allen & Matt Biesty. Allen is going into hospital shortly for a long operation,
we all wish you a speedy recovery.

Bradeley Hall

This is a little gem of a water that can produce some stunning ghost carp. It’s a hard
water to fish but rewarding at the end.

Merry Dale Pool

This is a small pool well stocked with bream & tench. We are currently looking for a
small working party to help maintain this water so if you can help please phone the
office on01270 820812.

Goose Green Fisheries

This fishery has 4 well stocked waters with very good access and well worth a visit. If
you fancy a nice weekend away Goose Green farm has a very reasonably priced
bed & breakfast, with lovely accommodation and food.
Membership

Club membership has got off to a great start this year. The club has seen many new
members join the club and some keen interest within the younger community. We
believe this is a positive way forward and that Junior/intermediate membership is the
foundation of the club.

The introduction of the new online Clubmate software has enabled us to better
manage personal information and assist us with the overall running of the club. We
would like to remind all our members to please update the office with any changes to
email addresses so that we can stay in touch.

I would like to thank Joanne our membership secretary, for all the hard work she has
put in sorting out the new membership software and making sure membership cards
are issued and posted out quickly.

The club is currently working on the introduction of a new website. This is an exciting
project which will hopefully promote the club and highlight all the fantastic work that
has been achieved and the great fishing experience Bay Malton offers. Thank you to
all our members for continued support.

The future of this water

The Future

This water has been on our club card for many years, this water holds a lot of specimen fish including carp 30+ Bream 12+ pike 30+ and top quality roach with a rumour of big cat fish.
Over the last few this water has fallen in to disrepair over the next 2 years I would like to sort this out by putting 6 night fishing pegs on this water and replacing some of the pegs problem about 16 to 18 to gives us a total 24 pegs.
Also I would like to add a stocking of new carp in to this water about 20 fish.

The work cannot be carried out with without the help of members, I am asking for 5 members to come forward to help me sort the majestic water out we have a long lease on this water and its shame to see not used.
The Job will include putting in new staging over the next 2 years and to bailiff the water and litter picking and collecting day ticket money.
All day ticket money will be put towards the investment on this water plus more.
The club need your help.

We took over Bradley Hall some 3 years ago and with the help of a few good members we have now turned this water around.

River Dane Trout 2016

I would love to share this photo with you of a massive 9lb 15oz brown
trout that i caught on the River Dane on fri 15th of july. I was fishing for barbel
on the manor farm stretch with a feeder full of ground bait and a hair rigged worm.
It is by far the biggest trout I have caught and it was really good to see it go back
after a 20 to 30 minute rest in the net. I didn’t catch any barbel by the way but as
you can imagine this fish more than made up for it.
