John Wilson Visit
The four match dates for the John Wilson visit are as follows.
Sat 12th April 2008
Sat 26th April 2008
Sat 10th May 2008
Sat 31st May 2008
The draw for all matches will take place at 10am on the Meridian canal car park. All matches will fish from 11am to 2pm.
There are nine places per match available for each age group.
You must book in for each match individually, and this can only be done through Stewart (01270 820812) one week in advance of each match date. eg Bookings for the fist match will be accepted no earlier than 5th April 2008.
If a match date is fully booked for your age group Stewart will provisionally book a place in the next available match for you, but you must contact him again in the week before that match to confirm your place. If this is not done the place will be lost.
In the event of two anglers gaining the same amount of points in the series of matches, the combined highest weight will decide the overall winner.
Important
Nominations for junior anglers unable to fish the matches or wishing not to fish the matches, can be submitted to Stewart after June 1st 2008. These nominations must be made by an appropriate adult and are open to all Junior members, including those who did not qualify through the matches.
Please remember there are only six available places, 3 for the match winners and 3 from nomination.
* It is hoped that once the places for the John Wilson visit have been established the match series will continue into and throughout next year. It has been suggested that these matches be held on various club venues, in order to facilitate anglers living out of the Border area. This is currently under discussion, and the initial feeling is that this is to be adopted. Details of future matches and venues will appear on the web as they are organised. I must say "Thank you" to various members for their suggestions, it is great to receive your views, it helps us move the club forward.

Additional events.
A series of matches are being organised. Matches will be divided into the following age categories;

11 to 14 years old
15 to 17 years old
John Wilson Visit
An aggregate point system will be used to determine the winning angler in each of the above match categories, and the 3 winning anglers will be given the opportunity to fish with John at his private lakes.Three additional places to fish with John will also be awarded
to young
anglers who have through (commitment, effort, consideration for others
etc) been seen to promote angling within GHOF/BMAC. Nominations for
these places will be made and adjudicated upon by the GHOF/BMAC
management committee.
Meet the Top Anglers
Top match anglers such as Neil Machin, Andy May, Geoff Moors, Andy Moors and Kieron Rich have all previously assisted GHOF in it’s delivery and have promised to continue throughout 2008 so sessions with some these anglers will take place during the year.
Specimen/celebrity anglers such as John Wilson, Jan Porter, Terry Hearn, Dean Macey, Nige Williams and Mick Brown will also be meeting members either at the fishery or at Shows and exhibitions during 2008.
Watch the Press - Publications such as
Total Carp - Advanced Pole Fishing - Total Coarse Fishing - Anglers Mail - Angling Times
Have all indicated an interest in featuring GHOF/BMAC junior
members
during 2008, so it looks like many of you could be appearing in the top
angling press.
Important
The Environment Agency will allow people without a rod licence
to fish
only if they are under the supervision of recognised and qualified
coaches and taking part in a pre booked session. There are several
BMAC/GHOF coaches who meet these criteria, however we do hope that all
junior members over the age of 12 will hold a valid a rod licence.
How do you fancy the chance to fish with John Wilson at his private lakes down in Norfolk.
I have known John for many years and he has always helped to support GHOF and all we do, and 2008 looks as though it will be no different. I recently spoke to him and told him of what I had planned for 2008, and John being John a few days later sent me this email.
Hi Dave
More strength to your bow mate. Where do you get all this
energy from? Whatever you’re on----I want some.
Seriously, I should like to wish all the youngsters in the BMAC and GHOF a very Happy Christmas and the best of luck in their new Border venture.
But
I am going to go a step further, why don’t you set up a competition
that entitles the winners to a day of fishing with me at my own
two-lake Carp fishery here in Norfolk. We can have the winners down
sometime in summer 2008, we could even ask Masterline to get involved
[for prizes obviously].
Tight Lines
JOHN (Wilson)I will keep you informed of the decision regarding the competition criteria, but it looks as though we will be taking 6 BMAC/GHOF juniors to meet John and show how to catch his own fish. Actually I think he just wants Mandy and I to pop down and give him a little coaching.
Seriously this is a great opportunity to meet John, fish with him and have what I am certain will be a day full of fun.
If you have any questions why not put them to me via the web site, and finally to all of you have a great Christmas and lets make 2008 the best year so far for juniors at BMAC.
Dave.
